CBD for Sleep

There are two major points we'd like to make regarding CBD for Sleep.  CBD by itself is great, however improving ones sleep is impacted by several things.  First and foremost, always seek medical advice from a health professional related to your particular situation.  Don't take the word of a brand who's trying to sell you their products.

1) CBD for Sleep = What Other Ingredients are in the Product You're Taking

Many people say things like, "Man, I took a CBD gummie and slept like a baby!" or "That CBD was amazing - I finally slept for 6 hours."  The first thing that you should think about it, "what else was in that CBD product?"  9.9 out of 10 times, the brand is including 2-5mg of melatonin in the CBD gummy or product.  From a simple Google search on how much melatonin should I take to sleep through the night returns a variety of information = link. Here's just one article of information to consider:

Research does suggest that Melatonin is likely safe when taken at recommended doses, typically 1-20mg, for up to three months. Melatonin is a manmade form of a hormone produced in the brain that helps regulate your sleep and wake cycle.

Read that carefully (along with other information).  1-20mg is a huge range.  But the other items to take away from that sentence are:

- "for up to three months" = taking melatonin long term is not recommended by many health professionals.  So, if you like your CBD with melatonin in it, understand it's typically not for long term, night after night usage.

- "manmade form of a hormone" = when you take melatonin, yes you may sleep better, but you are also signaling to your body that you've got enough synthetic melatonin to help you sleep.  Your body then reduces the amount of natural melatonin it needs to make.  This is against our philosophy at Vitalibis as we are all about health and safety.  We don't want synthetic hormones to impact your long term health.

Again, do your research but please know that many of the CBD products on the market to help you sleep are full of melatonin.  That's what is making the biggerst impact on your sleep cycles.

2) CBD for Sleep = Understanding the Endocannabinoid System

We wrote this BE WELL Blog post a while ago -> Endocannabinoid System (ECS) Overview - Balance and Homeostasis.  When you understand the concept of homeostasis, you can better understand why quality CBD products can potential assist with sleep.  At Vitalibis, we believe in USDA Organic certified full spectrum CBD, not broad or CBD isolate.

Be well. Feel better.
